McQueeney Baptist Beliefs

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, infinite in power, wisdom, holiness, judgment, and strength. He is the ruler of all mankind.

We believe that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, born of a virgin, sinless in life, died for the sins of the world, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He makes intercession for us at the right hand of God, and will personally return to earth in power and glory. Christ is the head of the Church.

We believe that all men are sinful by nature and by choice and are under the just condemnation of the holy God. Man was created in the image of God. Man of his own free will sinned against his creator. Man is only saved from sin by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. There is a bodily resurrection of both the just and the unjust, the just to the resurrection of life and the unjust to the resurrection of damnation.

We believe God the Father so loved mankind He gave His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for our sins on the cross. God the Father is the initiator of salvation and man must respond to God's initiative.

We believe that a personal saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christian faith. We hold to two ordinances, Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Both are commanded by the Lord Jesus and are symbolic in nature, being a testimony of our faith in the death, resurrection and soon return of our Lord. We believe immersion in water answers Christ's command to baptize and that such immersion symbolizes the heart of the gospel message of death, burial, and resurrection being an outward testimony of what has happened to us spiritually. We believe the elements of the Lord's Supper are meaningful to us as a part of worship as we are obedient to His command to share them in remembrance of Him. We believe the Lord's Supper is open to all believers who come to it in a spirit of self examination.

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells all believers and enables us to live a Godly life. The Holy Spirit comes into one's life at conversion to bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ.

We believe God, in the beginning, created the heaven and the earth and still upholds all things by the word of His power. We believe God will judge and destroy the earth and out of it create a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells for eternity.

We believe the Bible is the final, absolute authority in matters of faith and practice. The Old and New Testaments are God's word, written by men, prepared and superintended by His spirit. The scriptures in the original manuscripts are infallible, free from error and the source of divine authority. We hold to the complete verbal inspiration of the scriptures, which means the words themselves are inspired, not simply the thoughts of man. To interpret the scriptures correctly one must be led by the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the freedom of the individual conscience; in the voluntary principle, not the coercive principle in religion, and in total independence and separation of church and state.

We believe Christian cooperation is not dependent upon organizational unification. We believe we are united as brothers and sisters in Christ with all others who are children of God by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
