Church History

First McQueeney Baptist Church was organized in the summer of 1950 by Rev. F.F. Everett. The congregation began meeting outdoors under the mulberry trees in front of Mary Cloud's house. Most people brought their own chairs. The congregation then moved up to the Hills' home.

Bro. Everett took out a loan at Seguin State Bank and built McQueeney's first baptist church with his own hands. The present building (currently the Fellowship Hall) was built and dedicated June 24, 1951. At the close of the dedication, Taylor Thomas asked to be heard. He said that he felt the new babe congregation should not have to begin with a note for the land and bills to pay from the purchase of materials. Mr. Taylor brought two offering plates and placed $1000 in one. He then asked that it be matched. Ralph Shanafelt put in $1000 then others $500, $100's and lesser amounts. At the end of the prayer, the property, materials and fixtures were all paid for. Since that time the church has been a continuous witness in the community; however, in the 1980's the church experienced a decline in attendance down to about 9 people for worship and no Sunday school attendance.

In September, 1990, the remaining members of First McQueeney Baptist Church voted to go under mission status with First Baptist Church, Seguin as its sponsoring church. The church has since grown to an average worship attendance of 140 and a Sunday school attendance of 120. In October 1993, the congregation once again constituted into a self-governing and independent church incorporated under the name of McQueeney Baptist Church.
